ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is about conducting research into meaningful issues so that CPRC can provide clear advice about what consumers really need.
The Senior Research Adviser role involves:
o Conducting research into emerging consumer issues. This includes running our Victorian Consumer Survey, to regularly understand the big issues most affecting people in our state.
o Supporting other team members with research projects. You'll provide advice on proposed methodologies, analysis and findings. Where relevant, you’ll assess and work with external providers that help CPRC undertake research projects (e.g., survey panel providers, qualitative research providers, universities and shadow shopping agencies).
o Setting research standards. You’ll work closely with the Deputy CEO to assess the ethical implications of research. You’ll seek advice on research projects using CPRC’s expert panel and networks.
o Translating research findings into clear summaries and presentations that are accessible for non-expert audiences.
o Working within a small, dedicated team to achieve CPRC’s strategy.
Work type: Full time, permanent. CPRC offers a flexible work environment and welcomes a conversation about how we can make this role suit your needs. We welcome applications from candidates who are looking for a part-time position, job-share arrangement or other flexible approach to work.
Salary: $90,000 - $110,000 + superannuation.
Location: Victoria. We have office space in Melbourne but are open to hearing from candidates from across Victoria who WFH but can join us in the city around once a month to connect with colleagues. You will also be expected to join in-person for specific workshops and events throughout the year.
ABOUT YOU
You are a creative researcher that wants to see your work make a difference. You want to conduct compelling research and translate it into practical outcomes that will make Australia fairer.
You have:
o Experience designing research projects. You have knowledge of a range of research methodologies and can apply these to best understand complex problems.
o The ability to conduct research projects. You have the skills and experience to undertake research in at least one of the following methodologies and have a general understanding of the other methodologies:
> Survey design and analysis
> Qualitative methods such as interviews or focus groups
> Modelling or statistical analysis
> UX research methods such as customer journey mapping or process mapping
o A strong understanding of research ethics. You’re able to provide practical advice on how to manage risks when conducting research work.
o An understanding of how to conduct research for practical outcomes. You have some experience producing research for clients, partners, inquiries or other processes that have required you to connect findings to recommendations for improvement or change.
o Strong writing skills. You can write clearly for non-expert audiences.
o A proactive and self-directed style. You’ll be comfortable working in a small team and interested in continuing our supportive and collaborative culture.
Not essential, but an advantage:
o Knowledge of or experience with researching consumer problems or an interest in learning about this field.
o Experience conducting research with participants experiencing vulnerability.
o Confident verbal communicator, able to present research findings in public forums. We understand that not everyone has an interest in developing public presentation skills but, if you have an interest, CPRC is able to develop your presentation skills for public audiences, including the media.

This role is about developing ideas to make positive change and ensuring that the right people engage with these ideas.
The Policy and Engagement Adviser role involves:
o Developing and testing policy ideas in partnership with CPRC’s community of experts.
o Preparing advice and submissions to governments, departments and regulators that use CPRC’s research and insights from our community.
o Conducting research into consumer issues relevant to upcoming policy discussions.
o Identifying and engaging relevant stakeholders about CPRC’s research and policy work. You will work closely with the CEO and Deputy CEO to engage decision makers and promote CPRC’s ideas.
o Preparing briefing notes, presentations, speeches and other materials to translate CPRC’s ideas for non-expert audiences.
o Working within a small, dedicated team to achieve CPRC’s strategy.

You have:
o Knowledge of policy and government processes. You may have some experience engaging in formal policy processes, like inquiries or consultations, or you may have a good understanding of how these processes work.
o Strong communications skills. You write and speak in ways that engage and convince others. You will either have experience discussing issues in public forums and media or an interest in developing this skill with training and support at CPRC.
o An interest in creative solutions. You are able to connect ideas between policy discussions. You are interested in and able to work across a variety of topics, rather than be a specialist in one specific issue.
o A collaborative style. You enjoy bringing people together to solve problems.
o A proactive and self-directed style. You’ll be comfortable working in a small team and interested in continuing our supportive and collaborative culture.
o Interest in CPRC’s mission. You want to work at a not-for-profit think tank that develops ideas to make markets fairer for consumers.
Not essential, but an advantage:
o Knowledge of the Australian Consumer Law or an interest in learning about this field.
o Experience convening, facilitating or organizing events for policy stakeholders.
o Experience engaging with the Victorian Government, Departments or Regulators.
o Experience producing research reports for a public policy audience.
